Fireworks aren't just for July 4

When John Adams suggested in a letter to his wife, Abigail, that the newly born United States of America celebrate its independence with pomp, parades and explosions, he probably didn't intend for a fortnight of fun.

More than two centuries after Americans began celebrating Independence Day, that's exactly what they can find. Many suburban communities opt to observe the Fourth of July on different days, stretching celebrations over weeks.

The first booms of the season kicked off Friday in Whitehall at the Caste Village Merchants Association's celebration. Meanwhile, residents in Cranberry will celebrate late -- July 11, the Pittsburgh Trib reports.

I was on the board to move community day and nobody from the public decided to come forward and give any input when this was all in motion. So with that said you can't complain and that isn't just for you that is for anyone that didn't put any input into it. It's called no volunteers people wanted to come out and enjoy community on July 4 but we were not getting any help from the public. So hence we moved it and thought maybe just maybe moving the date would get more people out their cause it wasn't a holiday.

I understand completely what U R saying about the chg from the 4th 2 the 12th. Do U have any suggestions wrt 2 where 2 go 2 see fireworks 2night?

I have never had a 4th of July that I can recall that I didn't go see fireworks. I realize there are lots of surrounding towns that will have them & so I thought I'd ask others out in blog_land 4 their thoughts.
I know Zeli is having some ... I'm thinking of the logistics (i.e., parking, etc...)

Thanks in advance 2 anyone w/ some ideas.

PS The thought of NO fireworks or worse, watching fireworks on TV (!! YUCK !!). I would no more do the latter than watch the Christmas Yuletide Log in lieu of a Christmas fire in my fireplace on Christmas Day.
